(KTRS) – Mayor Francis Slay plans to reintroduce his plan to hire more police officers.
The Post-Dispatch reports that the mayor’s chief of staff told the public safety committee that the city needs more officers. In 2015, Slay said he wanted to bring on 160 new officers. The Board of Aldermen planned to pay for the new officers by increasing an existing tax, introducing new taxes, and using funds from the red light camera program.
The red light program was stopped by a Supreme Court ruling. Still, the mayor’s office plans to increase emphasis on the plan to hire officers in the near future.
