The Basics
Saint Louis was eliminated from the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Championship following a 4-2 loss against Rhode Island Thursday in a quarterfinal matchup at George Mason Stadium.
SLU falls to 8-7-2, while Rhode Island (10-7-2) advances to take on Dayton in a semifinal matchup tomorrow night.
Rhode Island scored in the fourth minute and took a 1-0 lead into halftime. In the second half, the Rams scored three more goals to build a 4-0 lead. The Billikens got on the board in the 80th minute when Vince Cicciarelli scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season. Lennart Hein tallied his first-career goal on a PK in the 89th minute, but the late charge wasn’t enough and Rhode Island held on to advance.
