WASHINGTON (AP) – Most Americans know the climate is changing — but they say they are just not that worried about it.

That’s the indication from a new poll by The Associated Press and the N-O-R-C Center for Public Affairs Research.
The poll, taken in mid-October, suggests that about two out of three Americans accept global warming, and that the vast majority of those say human activities are at least part of the cause.

But fewer than one in four Americans who were surveyed said they were extremely worried or very worried about it.
Despite some high-profile preaching from Pope Francis, just 36 percent of the Americans in the survey said they see global warming as a moral issue. And only a quarter see it as a fairness issue.

The poll comes ahead of the top-level international negotiations that begin later this month in Paris, aimed at limiting greenhouse gas emissions.

A Michigan woman, Renata Schram, says global warming is “kind of low” on the list of things that worry her. She says the world’s violence is a far more pressing issue.

But Linda Gebel of Minnesota says she’s read up on global warming, and that “it will cause famines and wars, huge problems.” She says, “I don’t know why people wouldn’t be worried about it.”
