Offseason for CITY. Help at Wing Back and Gioacchini
January 17th 2024 – CITY is off to a rather rolling start to 2024. The Club recently acquired Left and Right Backs Tomas Totland and Nikolas Dyhr. Both have European experience. Totland helped his former club Hacken to a successful UEFA Conference League campaign (The 3rd Tier European Cup). The pair seemingly will help CITY in a spot that was filled by committee last year. John Nelson fell out of the starting XI early in the year in favor of normal Center Back Kyle Heibert. CITY would later fill the spot with Anthony Markanich in a acquisition from Colorado at the Transfer Deadline. CITY also solidified their midfield with Chris Durkin in a trade with DC United.
Nico Gioacchini seems to be headed to back to Italy with Serie B side Como interested in the free scoring striker. The Transfer Fee is rumored to be around 2 million dollars plus an additional 2 million in add-ons. CITY and Gioacchini have agreed to terms with Como, but the deal has yet to go final. The European Transfer window closes on January 31st.
Gioacchini’s likely replacement would either come from Sam Adeniran who saw significant time last year and displayed scoring touch at the MLS and USL Championship level or via the designated player slot of which CITY has a 3rd spot available. That players salary would not count against the MLS Salary Cap. CITY had the 2nd lowest payroll last year among MLS Teams.
