St. Louis, MO (KTRS) Animal rights activists plan to hold a demonstration against the St. Louis horse-drawn carriage industry for what they call inhumane treatment of horses.
The protest follows the dismissal of a petition filed in St. Louis City Court, requesting the court to force the St. Louis Metropolitan Taxicab Commission and and it’s executive director Ronald Klien to regulate the industry. St. Louis Animal Rights Team (START) and the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) are appealing the decision.
The protest will be held at Tilles Park on Wednesday evening. Activists will also participate in a vigil to commemorate the second anniversary of the death of King, a horse who died while giving carriage rides at St. Louis County’s annual “Winter Wonderland.”
