St. Louis County man convicted of "extreme bullying"

Friday, 13 December 2013 10:30 Published in Local News
CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) - A St. Louis County man has been convicted of beating and sexually humiliating two teenage boys in a case of what prosecutors called "extreme bullying."
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 22-year-old Nicholas Nettles of Northwoods was the last of four defendants. The men held the teens in a home for several hours in October 2011, recording the attacks and posting them on Facebook.
Police say the teens, ages 16 and 17, were tied to a chair with duct tape, thrown down stairs, beaten with sticks and burned with cigarettes. They were forced to shower naked together, kiss each other and stand outdoors wearing girls' underwear.
Nettles was convicted Wednesday of eight crimes, including kidnapping, sexual exploitation of a minor and third-degree assault. Sentencing is Jan. 31.

CHICAGO (AP) - The wife of imprisoned former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich is attending a Chicago hearing to hear oral arguments in her husband's appeal.
Patti Blagojevich showed up at the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Friday morning as lawyers prepared to argue for and against tossing the ex-governor's corruption convictions.
She took a seat in a front row and hugged one of her husband's defense attorneys. Several FBI agents and prosecutors who investigated her husband sat nearby.
Convicts typically aren't permitted to attend such hearings and the two-term governor wasn't present. The 56-year-old remains in a Colorado prison serving a 14-year sentence.
Rod Blagojevich's lawyers are hoping to at least win a reduction in the Chicago Democrat's sentence, which is one of the longest ever imposed for political corruption in Illinois.
