Egyptian troops move against pro-Morsi sit-in

Wednesday, 14 August 2013 00:30 Published in National News

CAIRO (AP) - Egyptian state TV says security forces are moving to clear two sit-in camps in support of the country's ousted President Mohammed Morsi.

Security officials say forces are firing tear gas into the larger of the two protest locations in Cairo, the encampment in the eastern Nasr City neighborhood.

At the smaller protest site outside the Cairo University campus is Giza, armored carriers were securing the area on Wednesday.

The pan-Arab Al-Arabiya TV is showing images of clouds of smoke from the tear gas, collapsed tents and tires burning at the Nasr City protest site. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

At least 250 people have died in clashes in Egypt following Morsi's July 3 ouster in a military coup.

"Remarkable." That's what the Muny's executive producer Mike Isaacson had to say about attendance this season. It was up 9% over last yea, well over the 5% boost Muny executives had hped for, according to a report in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Including free tickets and community outreach, a total of over 383,000 people took in a show this year. That is the highest number in six years.

The most popular shows, Mary Poppins and Shrek. It was the first appearance at the Muny for both of the family-friendly shows.

And the Muny Opera isn't the only entertainment venue in Forest Park that's celebrating its popularity.  The St. Louis Zoo has broken another record.

Officials say the zoo has nearly 53,000 members as of July 31. That is an 11% increase of the same time last year and represents a 20% increase over the past five years.

The zoo was also happy to announce that they have 1,000 members who paid at least $1,000.

Gun safety instructor accidentally shoots student

Tuesday, 13 August 2013 03:14 Published in National News

LANCASTER, Ohio (AP) -- Police say an instructor at a central Ohio gun safety class has accidentally shot a student.

The Columbus Dispatch reports 73 year old Terry J. Dunlap Sr. was demonstrating a handgun at a training facility on Saturday when he fired a bullet that ricocheted off a desk and into the right arm of 26 year old Michael Piemonte.

The student says the .38 caliber bullet hit him between his elbow and armpit. He says many of the students in the class were nurses who helped stabilize him before he was transported to a Columbus hospital.

Piemonte tells the newspaper it appears Dunlap didn't know the gun was loaded. Dunlap hasn't responded to requests for comment.

A police report lists the shooting as accidental.
