Boeing sends request for voluntary layoffs

Tuesday, 22 April 2014 17:36 Published in Local News
St. Louis, MO (KTRS) - It appears Boeing is looking to shed jobs in St. Louis.

An internal letter to employees surfaced Tuesday. In the letter, the aerospace giant said they need to trim another $2.1 billion in expenses to stay competitive. In order to meet this goal, Boeing is asking for the voluntary resignation of some non-union employees.

In response to the letter leaking,Boeing released a statement that said in part, "This is an option employees have requested in the past and provides the enterprise with another means toward better affordability for the customers of our products in a highly-competitive marketplace. We are committed to work with our customers to ensure continued quality and performance during this transition as employees volunteer for layoff.”

The letter offering voluntary layoffs was sent to more than 10,000 employees.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - A southwest Missouri youth football coach accused of kidnapping and killing a 10-year-old girl is now facing rape and sodomy charges.

Greene County prosecutors added the new charges against 46-year-old Craig Michael Wood of Springfield on Monday. Court documents indicate the additional charges in the February death of Hailey Owens stem from newly available autopsy results.

Hailey was abducted while walking home from her best friend's house, just two blocks from her own home. Neighbors reported watching in horror and unsuccessfully giving chase as Hailey was pulled into a pickup truck that sped away.

She was found dead hours later in the basement of Wood's home.

Wood is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Thursday. His public defender says he plans to ask for a delay because of the new charges.
