Bank robbery suspect dead after shooting self

Thursday, 20 March 2014 16:54 Published in Local News

St. Louis, MO (KTRS) - The man who crashed his vehicle and then shot himself in the head after a bank robbery in North County Wednesday, has died.

25-year-old Tye Kaufman was pronounced dead this morning. Police say Kaufman robbed the US Bank in the 2200 block of North 67. After the robbery, police spotted Kaufman's car and started to chase him. At 270 and Lindbergh, Kaufman crashed into a concrete wall. When police approached the car, they heard a single gunshot and found Kaufman in the car.

Prior to the robbery, Kaufman had no criminal record.

St. Louis, MO (KTRS) - Police in Troy, Illinois may have solved one possible child abduction case, but another incident is being investigated.

Police in Breckenridge Hills say a 13-year-old girl was waiting at a bus stop this morning when she was approached by a stranger. The girl was standing at Gordon and St. Charles Rock Road when a man in a van tried to lure her into the car. The girl ran away.

The van is described as a full-sized white van with a ladder on top.  The girl told police the passenger who tried to get her to come to the van was a Hispanic male wearing a red ballcap and a red hoodie. Anyone with information is asked to call the police.

CHICAGO (AP) - An Illinois Supreme Court ruling may mean more than 100 inmates serving life sentences without parole may be released early from prison.

The Thursday ruling applies to inmates who have imprisoned for murders they committed when they were juveniles. It makes the state supreme court the latest court to rule regarding a 2012 U.S. Supreme Court ruling. That ruling determined that sentencing juveniles to life without parole constituted cruel and unusual punishment.
Since then, state courts have been deciding whether the ruling should be retroactive to apply to inmates in prison for crimes they committed as juveniles.

Thursday’s ruling to grant new sentencing hearings for the inmates stems from a case involving a lawsuit filed by an inmate convicted of murder when he was a juvenile.
