St. Louis, MO (KTRS) - A St. Louis priest is accused of having sex with a minor at the Cathedral Basilica, where he served.
Reverend Joseph Jiang was arrested on Thursday evening. Prosecutors say he had sex with a male victim, who was under 14 years old. The alleged incidents took place between July 2011 and August 2012. The 30-year-old priest from China was assigned to the Cathedral Basilica in St. Louis, where he lived with and was mentored by Archbishop Robert Carlson.
The Archdiocese of St. Louis says it has revoked the priest's canonical privileges. Church officials encourage any reports of misconduct involving minors be reported to the Director of Child and Youth Protection at 314-792-7704 or law enforcement officials.
The former St. Charles County teacher who sexually assaulted a 10-year-old, will serve probation.
KMOV reports the victim's family did not want the case to go to trial and that led to the plea agreement. Joseph Maddock will serve five years of probation after pleading guilty to child molestation charges. The abuse happened in early 2013 after Maddock had convinced the boy's family to allow him to home school the child.
Maddock has previously taught at 10 schools in the St. Louis area.
A sheriff in Maryville, Missouri expects up to 2,000 people to show up for a protest later today that was organized on behalf of a girl who says she was sexually assaulted when she was 14.
The case in Nodaway County has drawn national attention, leading to the appointment of a special prosecutor.
Sheriff Darren White says the county is placing portable restrooms on Maryville's courthouse square and is taking other measures to accommodate those who attend the rally set for 6 o'clock this evening.
At least two activist groups have called for a protest of the county prosecutor's decision to drop charges against a boy accused in the January 2012 sexual assault of Daisy Coleman.
The prosecutor says a lack of cooperation by the victim led to the charges being dropped. The Coleman's refute that claim.
The victim of a sexual assault on the campus of Washington University has identified the alleged attacker.
The victim told police that in the early morning hours of Sunday, someone she knew attacked her on the school's intramural fields. Campus police say the victim was able to identify the attacker and he is not affiliated with the school.
No arrests have been made, but investigators are preparing to take their case to prosecutors.
ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- Authorities say the disappearance of a St. Charles man was part of a scheme to fake his own death and cover up allegations that he sexually assaulted a 6-year-old girl.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Raymond David Avett of St. Charles disappeared in June, leaving suicide notes at several locations, including inside his Ford Explorer that was found abandoned in downtown St. Louis. He turned up three weeks later in Maryland.
Avett and his former girlfriend, 34-year-old Jennifer L. Callaway, were both charged Wednesday with concealing a felony.
Authorities allege that Callaway coerced Avett into giving her his home, SUV, boat and life insurance in exchange for not telling police about the alleged sexual assault.
Both suspects are jailed, Avett on $250,000 bond, Callaway on $200,000 bond.
