A 21-year-old man is facing charges for allegedly killing his roommate, who was a convicted sex-offender.

The St. Clair County State's Attorney announced the charges today. Police say that Mohammed Abuharba shot William Harriel Jr on February 6 and left him in the road to die. Investigators say that Harriel's status as a sex offender does not appear to be part of the motive.

Governor Jay Nixon spoke at the St. Louis City Police Department, defending his veto of a Missouri House Bill.

The legislation, House Bill 301 would have removed hundreds of criminals who committed sex crimes when they were under the age of 18 from online sex offender registries. The proposal would allow sex offenders to petition the court for removal from the registry. Nixon said the bill is flawed because it does not consider the seriousness of the criminal's offenses.

The legislation would remove around 870 people from the registry.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Gov. Jay Nixon has vetoed legislation aimed at keeping the names of people who committed offenses as juveniles off Missouri's public sex offender registry.

The governor said Wednesday the legislation is too broad and would apply to anyone regardless of the crime that was committed. Nixon says crime victims would have been deprived the chance to be heard before someone's name is removed from the public websites, which are aimed at protecting the public.

The vetoed legislation also ultimately would have allowed juveniles to petition the court for removal from the sex offender registry.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky said in interview on NBC's "Today" show that a key witness against him misinterpreted him showering with a young boy in Penn State football team facilities more than a decade ago. Sandusky told documentary filmmaker John Ziegler, in recordings played on the NBC program, that he does not understand how Mike McQueary concluded "that sex was going on" when he witnessed Sandusky showering with a boy in 2001.

Sandusky also told Ziegler he was not sure whether head coach Joe Paterno would have let him keep coaching if he suspected Sandusky was a pedophile. Sandusky was investigated by university police for a separate shower incident in 1998, but remained one of Paterno's top assistants through 1999.

St. Peter’s Police Department is asking for your help in finding an endangered teen who may be with a registered sex offender.

Police are searching for 16-year-old Molly Linhardt  who was reported missing by her parents Monday. They dropped her off at work at a Kentucky Fried Chicken of Jungermann Road to later find out she was not scheduled to be there.

Molly Linhardt was described by police as being a white female standing at 5 foot 3 inches tall. She has blonde hair, blue eyes and is approximately 110 pounds. She was last seen wearing a KFC uniform; black pants, black shirt, black shoes and hat.

It is believed that Linhardt may be with 27-year-old Benjamin Kinkade of Wright City. He is a registered sex offender after pleading guilty in 2002 for having intercourse with a 12-year-old female.  He could be driving a 2006 silver Chevy Colorado with Missouri state license plate 7PT914.
