St. Charles County drivers can expect delays this week near Mid Rivers Mall.

The bridge carrying Mid Rivers Mall Bridge over Interstate 70 closed at 11:00 p.m. Monday for paving operations.  Missouri Transportation officials say it will be closed until Wednesday evening.

The work is part of the diverging diamond interchange being built to ease congestion at I-70 and Mid Rivers Mall Drive.

MoDOT officials say more road closures are planned for the last week of October.

Month-long road closure starts Monday

MoDOT will close Washington Avenue between Memorial Drive and Second Street after rush hour Monday morning.  Transportation officials say the road will be closed for a month.

It's part of the "Park Over the Highway" project that will put a lid over the I-70 depressed section and connect the Arch grounds with downtown St. Louis.

Crews will continue to work around the King Bridge, interstate ramps and surface streets in the area for the rest of the year as the CityArchRiver 2015 project progresses.

The next phase of work on the new Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge will require a heavily traveled interstate to be shut down for more than a week.

At 9 p.m. Friday, Illinois transportation crews plan to close eastbound I-64 from the I-55/70 split to 18th Street.  It's expected to remain closed until 9 a.m. on Monday, September 23rd.

IDOT officials say the closure is necessary so that crews can build ramps to the new bridge, and drivers should expect long delays until the work is done.

The primary detour is eastbound on I-55/70 to I-255 south, which will add five-to-ten minutes during off-peak hours.  Drivers who can avoid the area over the next nine days are advised to do so.

Flooding closed Interstate 44 at mile marker 172 near the city of Jerome early Wednesday morning.  As of Wednesday night it was still closed, but MoDOT officials say it could reopen Thursday morning.

In addition, Missouri Route 63 is now closed in two locations - south of Vienna in Maries County and at Westphalia in Osage County - further complicating detour routes.

Motorists are encouraged to use U.S. 60, I-70 or U.S. 36 as alternate routes. This is especially important for commercial motor vehicle traffic approaching Missouri from other states.

Motorists traveling on Route 63 to destinations south of Vienna should take U.S. 50 to Route 28 to U.S. 63. Those traveling to areas north of Vienna should use Routes U and E to get around the closure.

National Weather Service predictions indicate water will overtake the lanes of U.S. 50 at Mount Sterling by mid-morning on Thursday, making travel in the area even more difficult.

“We don’t know for certain when flooded roadways will reopen or what additional flooding might occur,” said Travis Koestner, assistant district engineer of MoDOT’s Central District. “We appreciate motorists' patience as we monitor these roadways and ask motorists not to drive around barricades or attempt to drive through water.”

When the water recedes, MoDOT will inspect pavement and bridges for safety before opening highways for public use.

A quick traffic note. MoDOT is closing 170 between 70 and 270 until 3PM on Monday.

They are giving Ameren crews time to restring power lines over the interstate. Drivers are encouraged to use 70 or 270 as a detour.

Some south county drivers may face delays the rest of this week because of railroad work. St. Louis County Highway officials say Ringer Road will be closed between Royal Hills Drive and Viento in Oakdale beginning Tuesday morning at 7:00 a.m. It will remain closed through Friday, March 29.

The closure will allow crews from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad can make extensive repairs to the crossing.
