Tech job fair coming to St. Louis on Thursday

St. Louis, MO (KTRS) - An event that is being billed as "not you father's job fair" is coming to downtown St. Louis tomorrow.

 

Tech Jobs Under the Big Top will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 Thursday, at Lumen, a private event space located at 2201 Locust Street. The event features tech companies who are looking for people to fill positions from software developers to sales professionals. Up to a dozen local tech companies will take the stage and give a three minute speech--pitching their company to applicants. After the speeches, applicants will have a chance to meet with potential employers.

It has been so cold, you probably have not been thinking about your first trip to an amusement park this summer yet.

 

But at Six Flags, they are preparing for the 2014 season. The seasonal employer is preparing for a pair of job fairs, during which they hope to fill more than 2,500 jobs. Positions are for anything from entry level to seasonal management.

 

The job fairs will be held Feb. 1 and 15, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the human resources office. Applicants can apply ahead of time on the Six Flags website.

Life Skills looking to fill 150 positions

Life Skills is a St. Louis-based organization that helps people with developmental disabilities, specializing in autism, live and work in the community. Life Skills is looking to hire 150 people.

They are looking to fill both full-time and part-time positions. In some cases, no prior experience is necessary. Wendy Sullivan is the CEO of Life Skills and says she cannot remember a time when they had this many open positions. She says that shows the importance of the work they do and the need for help. Sullivan says it is a great way to get involved in the field, "It's great work. It's very rewarding. I'm the CEO, but I started in Life Skills in one of these positions, and I loved it."

The job fair is Wednesday from 3:30 to 6:30 PM at their Creve Coeur office. Attendees are encouraged to bring multiple copies of their resume and be prepared for interviews.

Job fair underway in Collinsville

A job fair is just getting underway in Collinsville Thursday.

The fair runs from 1 PM to 5 PM at the Gateway Convention Center. Some of the companies looking to hire; AAA, Clearwave Communications, Illinois state Police, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Special School District of St. Louis County.

   Hundreds of new jobs are coming to the St. Louis area because of the Affordable Care Act.

   The contract service company, Serco is hiring 600 people in Wentzville to do health insurance processing.  Serco is a private firm that specializes in providing management, technical and other services to the federal government.

   Starting today (Monday) through Friday Serco representatives will be meeting with job applicants at the National Information Solutions Cooperative at One Innovation Circle in Lake St. Louis. The company is asking that applications be submitted online at Serco's website.  

   Anyone who wants to apply in person can do so on Friday only, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

A Hiring Our Heroes job fair is scheduled for next week in downtown St. Louis.

At least 85 employers are expected to attend the fair. They will be looking to hire veterans and military spouses of all ranks, levels, and experience. The fair take place Tuesday, Aug. 6 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at America's Center Convention Complex. Job seekers should register in advance for free at hoh.greatjob.net, but walk-ins are allowed. Veterans must show proof of service.

Since its creation in March 2011, Hiring Our Heroes has hosted more than 570 job fairs which hired more than 20,200 veterans and military spouses.

The historic Italian restaurant Charlie Gitto's is hiring to fill several positions at its three metro area locations.

The job fair will be held on Tuesday, July 2, at the location on the Hill. The event runs from 11 AM to 3 PM. The restaurant's website says they are looking for career-minded individuals to fill positions from servers and line cooks, to managers and expeditors.

   Two downtown St. Louis venues are getting together to fill a number of part-time positions.  

   Peabody Opera House and Scottrade Center are holding a joint job fair Wednesday, June 26, from 3-7 p.m. at Scottrade Center.  Job seekers can enter through the main atrium entrance at 14th and Clark.  

   Both venues have openings in  guest services and security.  The jobs are for the upcoming event season at Peabody Opera House and 2013-2014 Blues hockey season at Scottrade.  

   A second job fair will be held Wednesday, July 10th.

The first of two outlet malls scheduled to open in Chesterfield this year, is hosting a job fair.

St. Louis Premium Outlets will have 90 stores who are looking to fill a total of 800 jobs. The event is being held at the DoubleTree on Swingley Ridge Road from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2013.

The outlet mall has their grand opening ceremonies starting August 22 and running through the weekend.
