St. Louis, MO  --  Two suspects are jailed in Pine Lawn after a routine traffic stop turned into a drug bust.

Fox2 News reports that a man and a woman were stopped for speeding on Interstate 70 near Jennings Station Rd.  just after 3 o'clock Thursday morning.
Police say they could smell pot as they approached the car. They were given permission to search the vehicle and found several pounds of the drug hidden beneath the liner of the trunk.

The duo had bought the marijuana in Colorado and it is unknown at this time whether they were transporting it to Missouri or through the state.

Drivers may still face delays along Interstate 70 near Lambert Airport while police work the scene of a fiery crash on an outer road.

Police say the accident on Natural Bridge at Woodson resulted from a police pursuit.  About 2:00 a.m. a car evading a police stop plowed into a light standard and burst into flames.

Fox 2 News is reporting that a police officer was shot when emergency crews approached the burning car and tried to put out the fire.  That officer was reportedly wearing a vest and wasn't seriously injured.  Police had to back off until the gunfire subsided.

The car was completely destroyed in the fire.  Someone inside that car apparently died, as the St. Louis County Medical Examiner was called to the scene.

Natural Bridge Road remains closed at Woodson.  But all lanes of I-70 have reopened in both directions.

Drivers should expect days heading into the depressed section along eastbound I-70 most of the day.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Authorities continue to investigate two separate incidents in north St. Louis in which pedestrians were struck and killed by vehicles.

The first happened just before 10 p.m. Tuesday when a person was struck on eastbound Interstate 70 near Salisbury Street. Lanes in both directions were closed for several hours after the accident. Police say the driver who struck the pedestrian was found. It wasn't clear if the driver would face charges.

In the second case, a man was struck by two cars as he was crossing Natural Bridge Avenue near Kingshighway just before midnight Tuesday. The drivers stopped and cooperated with authorities.

Names of the victims have not been released.

All lanes of Interstate 70 have reopened after a water main break near Jennings Station Road caused a large sink hole to form Wednesday afternoon.

Traffic on westbound I-70 was down to one lane through rush hour and much of the evening.

Missouri American Water crews worked well into the night to fill the hole, re-pave the road and reroute water to local customers.

Water Company Spokesperson Ann Dettmer says the 12 inch line broke because it was old and overused.  Dettmer says as the ground dries up, it doesn't provide as much support.

Engineers will consider whether to replace the main or reroute water service around it permanently.

There's good news for I-70 drivers.  The Blanchette Bridge is back to five lanes in each direction.

MoDOT reports that crews finished work well ahead of this morning's deadline, opening all lanes on both spans Saturday.

Transportation officials say drivers should expect occasional lane closures middays and overnight as crews finish work on the underside of the bridge structure.

The bulk of the work on the $64 million project has been completed two months ahead of schedule.
