A suspect is in custody after police say he carjacked a visitor at a local hospital and then robbed a bank.

Around 1 PM the suspect stole a car at St. Anthony Medical Center. A short time later, a car matching the description of a the stolen one was used during a bank robbery.

Police say the suspect drove from the hospital and robbed the Arsenal Credit Union. Police managed to stop the suspect in the stolen car on Interstate 55 in south county.

The suspect is in custody, but he has not been identified.

Lawyer implicated in more bank robberies

A 64-year-old Wentzville man with a law degree from Washington University, who is already in jail for allegedly robbing a bank and shooting a state trooper, is now a suspect in up to six other bank robberies. Warren J. Gladders is charged with robbing the First Bank in Dutzow, Mo., on Friday, but the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that a search of his home after the robbery found evidence of the other crimes.  That evidence was turned over to the FBI, which is leading the investigation. Gladders' attorney, Brad Kessler, declined comment, saying he had not yet had a chance to speak to his client.

Man charged in bank robbery, trooper shooting

WARRENTON, Mo. (AP) — An eastern Missouri man has been charged with robbing a bank and shooting a trooper while fleeing.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 64-year-old Warren Gladders of Wentzville was charged Saturday in Warren County with first-degree assault against a law enforcement officer, armed criminal action, robbery in the first degree and possession of an illegal firearm.

Bail has been set at $500,000. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.

Gladders is accused of robbing the First Bank of Dutzow on Friday morning. Afterward, a witness provided a description of the getaway car. When Gladders was stopped, a shootout ensued near the St. Charles County town of New Mell.

Gladders was shot in both legs, and a bullet lodged in the bullet-proof vest of a trooper.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a trooper was saved by his bulletproof vest during a shootout.

The incident started after a suspect walked into a First Bank in Marthasville. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money and sped away from the scene. A State Trooper was in the area and chased the suspect onto a nearby highway. The suspect stopped his vehicle and started shooting at the officer. He was hit in the chest, but was able to shoot back and hit the suspect in the leg.

The trooper was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay.

The suspect is receiving treatment at St. John's Mercy Medical Center.

FBI asks for help to identify the "I-55 Bandit"

The FBI is reaching out to the public to help ID the suspect in ten bank robberies that span five states.

The so-called "I-55 Bandit" has robbed or attempted to rob banks in Illinois, Missouri, Maryland, West Virginia, and Tennessee.

The suspect is described as a white male in his early to mid 20s with a thin build. He has short brown or strawberry blonde hair and stands about 6′-6’3″ tall. All of the banks he targeted in the metro area were along Interstate 55. The FBI is accepting tips by phone atl 1-800-225-5324 or visit FBI.gov

A search is underway for the suspect in a bank robbery.

Just after 10 AM, police say the suspect robbed a Pulaski Bank in Richmond Heights. It is not clear if the suspect used a weapon or even if he made off with any cash. No description of the suspect was given.

   ST. JOSEPH, La. (AP) - Louisiana State Police superintendent Col. Mike Edmonson says one of the hostages shot during a hostage standoff at a rural bank has died.

   The suspect had initially taken three hostages Tuesday afternoon in St. Joseph but later released one of them.

   The gunman - identified as 20-year-old Fuaed (FOO-od) Abdo Ahmed - later told negotiators he would kill the remaining two hostages. Edmonson says state police entered the building just before midnight Tuesday and that's when the suspect shot the hostages before being shot and killed by police.

   Edmonson said he didn't have any other information about the hostage who died. The condition of the other hostage who was shot is unknown.

A St. Louis County man is in custody after police say he robbed a bank and pharmacy then tried to make his getaway in a taxi.

54-year-old John Barbera allegedly robbed a First Bank branch inside a Creve Coeur Dierbergs, then went to a Wallgreens and tried to rob the pharmacist. Police arrested Barbera while he was trying to get a cab ride to escape the scene.

He is held on a $150,000 bond.

Police say they have a captured a suspect in a Creve Couer bank robbery.

The robbery happened on Olive Boulevard. The man implied he had a weapon and left with the cash. Witnesses at the bank were able to provide a description of the suspect's car--that helped police capture the man.

The suspect has not been identified pending charges.

An elderly man is on the run after police say he robbed a bank in Weldon Spring.

The St. Charles County Sheriff's Department says the suspect robbed the bank just after 10 this morning. The suspect is described as a white man about 60 years-old. He was seen wearing a baseball cap, a teal polo shirt, and blue jeans.

Officers say he was covering his face with a red scarf. No one was injured in the robbery.
