An intern at a big cat sanctuary in Dunlap, Calif., was killed after being attacked by a lion, officials told ABC News and ABC News station KFSN.

"The lion was also killed," CalFire spokesman Ryan Michaels told ABC News.com.

The incident occurred at around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Sierra Cat Haven in Dunlap, a small town in Fresno County near King's Canyon National Park, authorities said.

The worker was inside the cat enclosure when the attack occurred, officials said. It was not immediately clear what the worker was doing inside the closure, or what prompted the attack.

In an interview with KFSN, Sgt. Gregg Collins of the Fresno County Sheriff's Office said responding deputies found the worker dead inside a big cat enclosure.

Authorities have not named the deceased worker, but Dale Anderson, the owner of the facility, told reporters it was a female volunteer intern, KFSN reported. Anderson reportedly was crying as he read a statement to the media.

The animal involved in the attack, 4 year old male African lion named Couscous, was shot by a Fresno County sheriff's deputy who responded to a call, authorities said.

Prior to sheriff's deputies' arrival on the scene, another employee had tried unsuccessfully to lure Couscous away from the victim and into another enclosure.

The park was closed at the time of the attack.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Fresno County Sheriff's Department were investigating the incident.

Tony Spada of the Fish and Wildlife Department said wildlife forensic personnel would "look look at the animal and determine if the animal did, in fact, attack the subject, and then we will have our findings. And we work closely with the homicide detectives and/or detectives working the case."

Cat Haven was founded in 1993 and is run by Project Survival, a privately funded education and conservation organization.

The 100 acre facility is home to a variety of wild cats -- including tigers, leopards and other threatened and endangered species which are kept for limited breeding and use in educational programs, according to Cat Haven's website.

Officials said the park has had a good history, and had an active permit to operate.

Cat Haven also runs an outreach program, and its "cat ambassadors" may sometimes be taken off-site to make appearances as part of that program, the website said.

The preserve is run by a core staff supported by volunteers.

Couscous had been raised at the preserve since he was a cub.

A Kansas City man is facing up to thirty years in prison after a traffic stop in St. Charles County led to felony enticement charges.

Twenty-one year old Dominique Carter allegedly met a 13 year old girl through a smart-phone dating "app."

Police say he enticed her to send him semi-nude photos, and then pick her up at her St. Peter's home. But a short distance away, he was stopped by police for failing to use a turn signal.

St. Charles County Prosecutor Tim Lomar told Fox 2 News that it was just luck that led to Carter's arrest. "The only way that the officer was able to come into contact with these folks in the first place," Lomar said, "was the fact that the defendant committed a routine traffic violation."

Besides the enticement charge, Carter is also charged with sexual misconduct and child endangerment. He's jailed in St. Charles County on a $50,000 dollar cash-only bond.

CINCINNATI (AP) - Travis Taylor had 19 points and a career-high 19 rebounds on Wednesday night, and Xavier never trailed in the overtime, beating No. 16 Saint Louis 77-66, ending the Billikens' 11-game winning streak and leaving the Atlantic 10 title up for grabs.

Xavier (17-12, 9-6 A-10) ended a long winning streak for the second time in eight days. The Musketeers snapped Memphis' 18-game streak at the Cintas Center last week.

The Billikens (23-6, 12-3) haven't won a share of a conference title since 1970-71 in the Missouri Valley. Their last outright title came in 1956-57. They could have clinched the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament with a win on Wednesday.

Instead, they fell into a first-place tie with No. 21 VCU, which beat Richmond on Wednesday. Saint Louis beat VCU during its 11-game winning streak for the head-to-head advantage.

Saint Louis finishes the season at home against third-place La Salle on Saturday. VCU is at Temple on Sunday.

Ellisville officials are dropping some of the charges against their embattled mayor, Adam Paul.

Last week, the city council had adopted an 11 page impeachment document that charged Paul with violating the city's charter.

The charges also included swearing and drinking on the job. The council voted Wednesday night to drop those two charges from the impeachment proceedings.

City Attorney Paul Martin says he has evidence that both are true, but has learned that neither is an impeachable offense.

Mayor Paul refutes all of the charges, claiming they all stem from his disagreements with the council over a controversial Walmart TIF.
