A four vehicle crash near Tower Grove Park leaves one man dead.
Police say a 61-year-old man hit three cars and then a tree. He died at the scene. The accident reconstruction team is headed to the crash site in the 2600 block of Kingshighway.
A jury has recommended life in prison for the 20-year-old St Louis man who was convicted for his part in the death of Vietnamese man during a 2011 knockout game attack.
20-year-old Elex Murphy has been found guilty of second-degree murder, first-degree assault and two counts of armed criminal action for the attack on 72-year-old Hoang Hguyen and his 59-year-old wife.
The morning attack happened last April in the 3800 block of S. Spring. Police said the Nguyens were attacked as they walked home after shopping at a nearby grocery market.
The victims were punched and kicked repeatedly by a group of young adults. The elderly man fell to the ground after being beaten and suffered a severe head injury. He died at a local hospital a short time later.
The teens ran when a car approached.
Days later, Elex Murphy was arrested and charged. No other teens have been arrested.
Shenandoah Valley Elementary in Chesterfield remains closed today but will be open tomorrow.
Parkway School District officials say some students will be moved to other classrooms, but remain in the school.
Benetta Johnson was convicted today for causing a pit bull puppy to be dragged for miles down Interstate 55.
A judge delivered her sentence almost immediately after the verdict. Johnson will serve two years probation and perform 150 hours of community service. She is also barred from owning of caring for a pet for two years. Johnson had her son tie their puppy to the back of her ex-husbands pickup truck. He unknowingly dragged the dog down the highway.
The puppy, named Trooper by the Humane Society, has made a remarkable recovery.
