Four people are nursing bumps and bruises after the second story deck they were sitting on collapsed during a Memorial Day gathering.

It happened about 1:30 Monday afternoon at a condominium on Sandlewood Creek Court in Wildwood.   Officials say there were problems with the strength of the balcony.

Metro West Fire responded to the incident.  Fire Captain Jeff Haefer says his Fire Marshall and others are working with various property owners to prevent future accidents.  "There is a collaborative effort between our fire bureau and the property owners," Haefer said.  It's "to determine safety issues and point out those things to prevent this from happening again."

Chief Haefer says its fortunate that no one was seriously injured in the incident Monday.

CHICAGO (AP) - Police say a Chicago man charged in the death of a 6-month old girl was gang member who was retaliating for the theft of a video game console.

Sally Daly, a spokeswoman for the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, says Koman Willis is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm. A bond hearing is set for Tuesday.

Jonylah Watkins was killed March 11 while sitting in her father's lap in a minivan. Police say the dad, Jonathan Watkins, was the intended target. Watkins was seriously wounded.

The shooting took place in the middle of the day in the Woodlawn neighborhood on Chicago's South Side. It was one of several earlier this year that brought attention to the gang violence in Chicago.

The bomb squad and other investigators headed to the area to check out the vehicle. No further information was immediately available.

The closing came near the end of the Memorial Day weekend. Traffic was backed up on nearby roadways near the bridge.

CLEVELAND (AP) - Midfielder Maurice Edu has dropped out of the U.S. men's training camp ahead of the next World Cup qualifiers because of a sports hernia.

Edu, fellow midfielder Brek Shea and defender Corey Ashe all withdrew Monday. No replacements were added to the roster, which now stands at 28 players. Shea, who has a lingering calf strain, is returning to Dallas for treatment and could rejoin the U.S. team at a later date.

The Americans play Belgium here Wednesday in an exhibition. They also have an exhibition against Germany on June 2 before resuming World Cup qualifying. Seeking its seventh straight World Cup berth, the U.S. travels to Jamaica on June 7, plays Panama four days later in Seattle, and then faces Honduras in Salt Lake City on June 18.
