CHICAGO (AP) - Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon says she won't seek re-election in 2014 but that she will likely run for another public office.

In brief remarks to reporters in Chicago on Wednesday, the Carbondale Democrat refused to go into detail about her future plans.

She says she will make another announcement in a few months.

Simon says she informed Gov. Pat Quinn of her decision in December. Quinn has said he'll seek re-election.

Simon is a former law professor and prosecutor. A brief statement released before her news conference highlighted her legal background.

In that written statement, Simon also said she wants to serve the people of Illinois in a role where she can have "an even greater impact."

Simon was first elected lieutenant governor in 2010.

A woman who allegedly stole items from several Sam's Clubs then sold them on eBay, faces federal charges.

Authorities say that Tammy Baggio stole from Sam's Club locations in several states, including stores in St. Louis in St. Charles, between February and August of 2012. Baggio would post the stolen items on eBay. If convicted, she could serve up to five years in prison and faces fines up to a quarter million dollars.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Republican senators are making another push to alter the wages paid by government entities for public works projects.

One proposal considered by a Missouri Senate committee Tuesday would eliminate the "prevailing wage" altogether.

Missouri calculates the prevailing wage for various construction trades in each county based on surveys of wages already paid on jobs.

The measure's sponsor, Sen. Dan Brown, of Rolla, told the panel the current wage calculation does not adequately reflect construction wage rates in rural Missouri, thus driving up a project's cost.

Another bill would keep the prevailing wage intact, but would use a federal database to set the guidelines for projects in rural counties.
