Springfield man charged with child porn

Monday, 03 February 2014 11:18 Published in Local News

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - A western Missouri man faces a federal charge accusing him of using his cellphone to exchange pornographic messages with a teenager.

The office of the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri says in a release that 49-year-old Larry Allison of Weaubleau is charged with one count of possession, receipt and production of child pornography.

The federal complaints says Allison is accused of sending graphic text messages, including a naked photo of himself, to the teenage girl last month until the girl's mother found out. A detective then portrayed herself as the victim in the cellphone messages and said Allison asked her sexual questions.

Allison's public defender didn't immediately return a call seeking comment Monday. Allison is in federal custody until his detention hearing later this week.

Echoes of Zimmerman expected in Florida trial

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — A white software developer is about to go on trial in Florida in the death of a black teenager — in a case that raises comparisons to the George Zimmerman-Trayvon Martin case.

Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday in the trial of 47-year-old Michael Dunn.

Police say Dunn fatally shot 17-year-old Jordan Davis in 2012 outside a Jacksonville convenience store after arguing over loud music that Davis and his friends were playing from their SUV.

Dunn says he fired multiple shots into the SUV after the teens threatened him and one raised a shotgun. Dunn was arrested the next day.

Zimmerman, a Hispanic, was acquitted of second-degree murder last year in the death of Martin, a 17-year-old black teen.

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The Connecticut prosecutor who investigated Woody Allen on child molestation claims more than 20 years ago but didn't file charges says it's too late for the film director to be prosecuted.

Former Litchfield County state attorney Frank Maco said in a phone interview Sunday with The Associated Press that the statute of limitations on adopted daughter Dylan Farrow's accusations ran out at least 15 years ago.

Maco had said in 1993 that he lacked evidence to prosecute Allen but suspected the abuse did occur. He retired in 2003.

Farrow renewed allegations against Allen in an open letter to The New York Times on Saturday, saying he sexually assaulted her when she was 7 after he and actress Mia Farrow adopted her.

Allen has denied the accusations.
