JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri's legislative session is over, but the work may continue for some lawmakers.

Senate President Pro Tem Tom Dempsey says he is considering appointing at least three committees to study issues before the 2014 session.

A joint panel of Senate and House members could look into potential changes to the Medicaid health care program for the poor.

Another committee could study potential projects to be included in a bonding proposal that would be put before voters.

Dempsey said an interim committee also could look into changes to the state's regional solid waste management districts.

All of those committees would be continuing work on measures that failed to pass during the legislative session that ended Friday.

A home improvement project is being blamed for the explosion at a St. Peters home.

Officials with the Cottleville Fire Protection District say a contractor was working to refinish a concrete floor, but did not have adequate ventilation. The contractor also said the hot water heater was left on, prompting the explosion.

The house will need major work before it is livable again.

The work to replace two miles of water pipeline along Manchester Road in Ballwin kicks off Monday night.

Starting every night at 8:30, crews will dig up water mains between Henry Avenue and Old Ballwin Road. KSDK reports the pipes are between 70 and 100 years old. Crews will be working from 8:30 pm to 6am to minimize the impact on traffic, but the inside westbound lane will be occasionally closed.

Work should be done before MoDOT plans to re-pave Manchester in 2014.
