A 20-year-old woman remains in critical condition after she was shot in the chest sitting outside a north St. Louis home early this morning.

The woman was sitting with two friends at a house near Fountain Park around 2:30 this morning, when an unknown suspect started shooting. The woman was hit, one of her friends pulled out a gun and shot back.

Police say it does not appear that the victim was the gunman's intended target. Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation.

The 63-year-old man accused of shooting at two people in a North County bar, has died, the man who attacked him, facing charges.

The shooting occurred late Friday night inside the Pirates Cove bar in Florissant. The Post-Dispatch reports that Edward Mueller of Florissant was disarmed and assaulted by Douglas Layman after the shooting. Mueller was taken to the hospital died from a heart attack.

Layman is the brother of the victims. Layman is charged with second degree murder and held on a quarter-million dollar bond.

   St. Louis police say three people taken into custody yesterday aren't connected to the murder of a teen who was gunned down near a school bus stop Tuesday morning.  

   Police say 16 year old James Moore had been waiting for the school bus at Goodfellow and St. Louis Avenue when a masked man got out of a car, chased him into a nearby park and shot him several times.  Moore died at the scene.  

   Later in the day, police stopped a car matching the description of the one used in the murder.  The three suspects from that car who were initially questioned in the murder didn't get off scot-free.  They're facing charges for fleeing from police.  

   The investigation into Moore's death is ongoing.  Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-866-371-TIPS.

SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - Police say it was a student who opened fire at a Nevada middle school today, killing a staff member who was trying to protect other children.

The suspected gunman also is dead, but authorities say no shots were fired by law enforcement, though more than 150 officers responded.

The shooting erupted outside Sparks Middle School shortly before classes began this morning. Two other students were critically injured in the incident. They were both taken to a nearby hospital, where one is out of surgery. Police say the other as doing well.

Students from the middle school and next door elementary school were evacuated to the nearby high school, and classes were canceled. At the evacuation center, parents walked with their arms around their children, some of whom were in tears.

The city of Sparks lies just east of Reno.

A would-be robber is dead after starting a shoot out with police in North County.

Around 9:30 AM, Sunday, a woman called police after a man tried to force his way into her home. The victim knew the suspect and directed police to his home. When police arrived at the house in the 10000 block on Winkler, the man started shooting at officers. The Florissant police officers returned fire and killed the suspect.

No officers were injured. The suspect's identity has not been released.

A 32-year-old Imperial, Missouri man is behind bars after police say he shot is stepfather during a fight.

On Sunday after, officers arrived at a home in Imperial they found the stepfather with a gunshot wound to the stomach. He told police his stepson had shot him.

Police later arrested Nicholaus Lohrum and he is now head on a $75,000 bond.

Two people shot, killed at North County bar

ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis police are looking for suspects in the deaths of two people at a bar.

Police say the two victims were at Starz Bar separately when shootings began early Sunday.

The victims were identified as 45-year-old Timothy Blair of north St. Louis County and 32-year-old Kemesa Newble of East St. Louis.

Police say a fight began inside the bar and all of the patrons were asked to leave.

Blair was standing with a group of men when he was shot in the abdomen by an unknown male. Newble was inside her car when she was caught in a crossfire between two men. Both died later at St. Louis hospitals.

The suspects fled on foot.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — Former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is set for her first visit to a gun show since she survived an assassination attempt in 2011.

The former Arizona congresswoman plans to highlight a voluntary agreement that closely monitors gun show sales in New York. It's part of her national campaign for stricter gun control.

Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly are touring the Saratoga Springs Arms Fair on Sunday with Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

Schneiderman had worked with all 35 gun show operators in New York to adopt stringent new rules to track sales. Schneiderman also has a staff member at each gun show to work with operators to monitor compliance with the state's new gun control law.

GIffords was shot in the head while meeting with constituents in Tucson. Six people died.

Trial underway for man shot by Missouri trooper

UNION, Mo. (AP) - The trial is under way for an eastern Missouri publisher of an anti-government newsletter facing multiple charges for a 2012 confrontation with state troopers.

The Washington Missourian reports that 47-year-old Jeffrey Weinhaus of Franklin County is charged with interfering with a judicial official, felony possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and assault of law enforcement officers.

Weinhaus was critically injured in a confrontation near St. Clair in September 2011 when he was shot by a state trooper after allegedly reaching for a handgun.

Jurors on Tuesday saw a video of Weinhaus saying he had a right to "go in there and blast" officials he felt were corrupt.
