Four suspects are facing charges connected to a home invasion in Alton earlier this month.
Rachel Barnes, 24, Christopher Hill, 27, DeMarco Smith, 20, and Curtis Wallace, 38, have been all been arrested for armed robbery and home invasion, according to Alton Police. Hill and Wallace also face attempted murder charges. Police say they were called to a home an January 16. They found a 55-year-old man who had been beaten with fists, gun, and a pipe, and then was stabbed.
Police from Alton, St. Louis County and St. Louis City worked together to catch the suspects. The victim has since been released from the hospital.
St. Louis' extremely cold winter weather has claimed the life of an Alton, Illinois man.
Police say 66 year old Carl Walker had been removing snow with a snow blower outside his home Thursday morning when he became short of breath. He went inside and his wife called 9-1-1.
Walker was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he died.
Madison County Coroner Stephen Nonn says Walker suffered a heart attack.
Nonn says its important for everyone, especially those with heart and other health conditions to use extra caution in cold conditions.
A metro-east man is facing felony charges for allegedly shoplifting a single bottle of liquor.
Madison County prosecutors have charged 23 year old Jason Whitney of Alton with felony theft. Police say a worker at a Godfrey supermarket caught Whitney red-handed early Saturday morning.
Sheriff's Captain Mike Dixon told the Belleville News-Democrat that the alleged theft qualifies as a felony because of Whitney's burglary conviction earlier this year.
Authorities are identifying an Alton man killed in a crash Monday afternoon as 78 year old Charles Bickett.
Madison County Coroner Stephen Nonn says a jeep struck Bickett's Ford Taurus in the driver's side as Bickett attempted to turn left from a restaurant parking lot onto College Avenue in Alton.
Bickett was pronounced dead at the scene about 2 p.m. He died of blunt chest trauma. Nonn says Bickett had been wearing a seat belt.
Toxicology test results are still pending and Illinois State Police continue to investigate the crash.
Alton police are searching for a missing 82 year old woman. Police say Shirley Plunk was last seen late Monday morning at the Hillcrest Apartments in Alton.
Plunk is 5 feet 6 inches tall, about 250 pounds with gray hair.
Police say she rarely ventures outside of Alton and drives a grayish-green 2006 Chrysler Town and Country minivan with Illinois license plate: CEPSMP.

ALTON, Ill. (AP) - A southwestern Illinois man is jailed on $1 million bond after being accused of sexually assaulting a girl for about three years.
The (Alton) Telegraph reports Madison County prosecutors charged 48-year-old Jack Garrett of Alton with eight counts of predatory sexual assault of a child and five counts of criminal sexual assault of a child.
The charges related to alleged sexual conduct when the girl was between 11 and 13 years old, from February 2001 and July of this year.
A spokeswoman for the county state's attorney's office says the investigation began when the girl reported the allegations to a family member, who then notified authorities.
ALTON, Ill. (AP) - A long-running southwestern Illinois car show was canceled after only a dozen classic cars showed up to go on display.
Organizers of Sunday's All-Wheels Drive-In Car Show in Alton tell The Telegraph that they couldn't afford to run the 16-year-old event with so few entrants.
Typically, about 150 classic cars, hot rods and other vehicles are displayed.
The annual car show raises money for Alton Main Street and Time Machines Unlimited Car Club.
Organizers tell the newspaper they plan to reschedule for late July and are hoping for a better turnout.
Life is slowly returning to normal in the river town of Grafton, Illinois.
The Great River Road has reopened. Raging Rivers Water Park in Grafton will reopen Tuesday morning at 10:30, one week after the flooded Mississippi River forced it to close.
The Mississippi continues to recede, but hasn't returned to its banks just yet. Travel on Highway 67 between the Clark Bridge and Highway 94 in West Alton is still just one lane in each direction.
While tornado cleanup continues in some parts of the St. Louis metro area, sandbagging is underway in other parts. The Great River Road is closed between Alton and Graffton because it's under water.
Water surrounds the Con Agra plant off Highway 100 in Alton and the Alton Belle Casino has closed for the first time because of flooding along the Mississippi. The river is expected to crest in Alton on Tuesday at 36 feet -- that's within a foot of the historic flood of 1973.
Alton isn't the only community affected by high rivers. The National Weather Service says the river should crest today 11 feet above flood stage at Grafton.
MoDOT has closed Highway 94 between West Alton and Highway 67 in northern St. Charles County. The highway is also closed between Augusta, Mo. and Defiance, Mo. in St. Charles County.
Centaur Road is closed behind Spirit of St. Louis Airport at Chesterfield Valley due to the rising Missouri River.
Highway 67 is closed in Herculaneum due to flooding.
