An 82 year old Alton woman who's been missing since Monday morning has been found alive.
Madison County authorities say horseback riders found Shirley Plunk Wednesday evening. She and her minivan were stuck in the mud at the end of a dirt road in Mitchell, Illinois.
Plunk told police the van got stuck Monday afternoon. She got out, slipped in the mud and became stuck herself.
Plunk was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and reunited with her family.
CAVE-IN-ROCK, Ill. (AP) — A yearly southern Illinois outdoor music festival featuring the Insane Clown Posse rap-metal group is getting underway in southern Illinois, and police say they'll be ready for the thousands of the band's fans.
Illinois State Police say they're prepared along with Hardin County sheriff's authorities for the kickoff Wednesday near Cave-In-Rock of the latest Gathering of the Juggalos. Juggalos are fans of the band.
State police say 10,000 people are expected to attend the event that runs through Sunday.
The event in past years has resulted in unrest, including fans pelting reality TV actress Tila Tequila with stones, bottles and feces in 2010. Authorities said that event also involved one man stabbing another. In 2011, one of the attendees drowned while trying to swim in the Ohio River.
MIAMI (AP) — Hurricane Henriette (hen-ree-EHT') is moving west-northwest in the Pacific far from land.
Hurricane Henriette's maximum sustained winds late Tuesday night are near 90 mph (150 kph) with additional strengthening possible into the night, followed by gradual weakening on Wednesday.
The hurricane is centered about 1485 miles (2390 kilometers) east of the Hawaiian islands and is moving west-northwest near 10 mph (17 kph). It was projected to follow a path that takes it well south of Hawaii.
Also in the Pacific, the National Hurricane Center in Miami says Gil is now a tropical depression, with maximum sustained winds near 35 mph (56 kph). Gil is centered about 1,185 miles (1907 kilometers) east-southeast of Honolulu, Hawaii and is moving west near 9 mph (15 kph).
