Air Force: Scott air base loses 33 civilian jobs
MASCOUTAH, Ill. (AP) - Air Force streamlining efforts mean nearly three dozen civilian jobs have been cut at Scott Air Force Base in St. Clair County.
The Belleville News-Democrat reports the 33 jobs at Scott's Air Force Network Integration Center were eliminated when a contract with the workers' employer ended at the end of last month.
But Col. Brenda Campbell, a spokeswoman for the Air Force Space Command at Colorado's Peterson Air Force Base, says the lost Illinois jobs will translate to nine new in-house positions at Peterson.
Campbell says the Air Force will save money long-term through the consolidation.

Kyle Loshe signs with division-rival Milwaukee Brewers
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.-- USA Today -- Kyle Lohse, the last star on the free-agent market, agreed to a three-year, $33 million contract with the Milwaukee Brewers that will make him the team's highest-paid pitcher, two officials with direct knowledge of the negotiations told USA TODAY Sports.
The officials spoke on of condition of anonymity because Lohse still has to pass a physical.
Lohse, 34, is coming off the greatest season of his career, dominating the National League Central for the second consecutive year. He went 16-3 with a 2.86 ERA and had the Cardinals within one game of the World Series. He finished seventh in the National League Cy Young balloting.

Rams, Long agree to terms on deal
ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis Rams and free agent offensive tackle Jake Long have agreed to terms on a four year deal worth up to $36 million.
Long, the first overall pick of the 2008 draft, spent a few days in St. Louis last week and passed a physical, but left without a deal. Kevin Demoff, the Rams' chief operating officer, confirmed the signing Sunday night.
Long is the Rams' second acquisition in free agency along with tight end Jake Cook, who got a five-year deal.
Long made the Pro Bowl each of his first four seasons. He finished last season on injured reserve with a left triceps injury and the Dolphins declined to give him a franchise tag and pay him $15.4 million next season.

Boeing union voting on company's latest contract proposal
A strike could be imminent for one of the nation's largest aerospace companies.
The union for Boeing's engineers and technical workers is counting ballots on the company's latest contract offer. It has recommended that members reject the offer because it gives new members a 401(k) retirement plan instead of a pension.
The union also wants authority to call a strike if talks break down.
