St. Louis, MO (KTRS) - A spate of break-ins targeted south city gyms this morning.
Fox2 reports thieves hit at least three different gyms in less than a half an hour early today. Cars were vandalized at the St. Louis Fitness Club on Hampton and Potomac, and another fitness club in Hampton Village near Schnucks as well as at Blast Fitness on Jefferson and Lafayette. Piles of glass greeted many people after their workouts. St. Louis police got the first call around 6:00am. Hampton Village.
Police believe the same suspects may be behind all of the break ins. They are described at this point as two males in a dark grey Grand Prix.
St. Louis, MO (KTRS) - St. Louis Homicide detectives are on the scene of a shooting in North St. Louis.
Police say 16-year-old Noah Barnes was shot several times and was pronounced dead at the scene. Neighbors in the 1900 block of Clara say they heard five to six shots and then saw a person laying face down in the street.
Police have not released any information on suspects.
St. Louis, MO (KTRS) - Police say that a St. Louis County man was smoking pot when his son accidentally shot his younger brother.
Larry Madison now faces charges of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child and marijuana possession. Investigators say Madison left a loaded shotgun within easy reaching distance of his two sons, who are 3 and 4 years old. Police say he was smoking marijuana in another room when the 4-year-old picked up the shotgun and shot his 3-year-old brother. The younger boy was taken to the hospital after being grazed by a bullet.
Police say the children’s mother was also home at the time.
St. Louis, MO (KTRS) - A St. Louis priest is accused of having sex with a minor at the Cathedral Basilica, where he served.
Reverend Joseph Jiang was arrested on Thursday evening. Prosecutors say he had sex with a male victim, who was under 14 years old. The alleged incidents took place between July 2011 and August 2012. The 30-year-old priest from China was assigned to the Cathedral Basilica in St. Louis, where he lived with and was mentored by Archbishop Robert Carlson.
The Archdiocese of St. Louis says it has revoked the priest's canonical privileges. Church officials encourage any reports of misconduct involving minors be reported to the Director of Child and Youth Protection at 314-792-7704 or law enforcement officials.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — An airline pilot has been convicted of two counts of abusive sexual contact for groping a 14-year-old girl while he was a passenger on a flight from Detroit to Salt Lake City.
Michael Pascal was found guilty Thursday by a jury after a three-day trial in U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City.
The girl told investigators that she woke up from a nap on an Oct. 26 Delta Airlines flight and found Pascal's hand under her, gripping her buttocks.
The 45-year-old Pascal, who worked as a pilot for a regional airline carrier that contracts with Delta, told investigators he fell asleep with his hands in his lap and doesn't know how one ended up underneath the girl.
He'll be sentenced July 29 and could face up to five years in prison.
WEST PLAINS, Mo. (AP) — A south-central Missouri woman will be sentenced in May for the death of an infant she admitted dropping because the baby wouldn't stop crying.
KYTV reports 21-year-old Bobbie Derryberry of Mountain View pleaded guilty this week in Howell County Circuit Court to second-degree murder. Other charges were dropped.
Derryberry was accused of killing her 5-month-old daughter, Autumn Nash, in June 2013. Hospital records showed the baby had a fractured skull, broken ribs and extensive bruising.
Investigators said Derryberry told officers she dropped the baby to the floor because she wouldn't stop crying. She also hit the child two or three times on the back, face and nose.
Derryberry had two other children who were placed with a guardian in 2011 after Derryberry was convicted of child endangerment.
