UPDATE 1:32 PM:

Power outages have decreased to just under 1400.

Over 5,000 customers in St. Louis city are reporting power outages at this time.

That includes the corridor of Hampton between Forest Park and I-44. We also got calls that the St. Louis Zoo was without power. A Zoo official tells KTRS News they are moving visitors out of the areas with animals--the animals are fine, but visitor buildings have no lights on. Visitors are allowed to wait in the Living World exhibit.

The outages are affecting customers in the zip codes of 63110, 63116, and 63139.

CRYSTAL CITY, Mo. (AP) - An eastern Missouri sheriff is raising safety concerns about gatherings at an old sand mine now used as a recreation complex.

The 200-acre site near Crystal City once provided sand to a glass factory. It is now known as Crystal City Underground.

The site is also rented out to parties. A gathering on April 6 drew hundreds of people. Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that deputies issued eight summonses, including three for underage drinking and two for drugs.

Boyer is concerned about whether emergency vehicles could get to the site, and if a bridge meets safety standards.

Owner Tom Kerr says an emergency plan is in place and plans are in the works for a new road and bridge to the site.

WASHINGTON -- AP -- The U.S. Secret Service says it has intercepted a letter addressed to President Barack Obama that contained a “suspicious substance.”

Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan says the letter was intercepted at a facility away from the White House. He says the letter was received Tuesday.

The letter comes a day after lawmakers said a letter was mailed to Sen. Roger Wicker that tested positive for poisonous ricin. Another senator said police have a suspect in mind.

Tensions have been high in Washington and across the country since the deadly bombings on Monday at the Boston Marathon that killed three people and injured more than 170.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Anheuser-Busch is introducing a new, bowtie-shaped beer can that mirrors its iconic Budweiser logo.

The St. Louis-based subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch InBev NV said Wednesday that the new cans will be available in a special 8-pack nationwide beginning May 6.

The can has been in development since 2010. The beer maker says it made major equipment investments at its can-making facility in Newburgh, N.Y., to facilitate the 16-step process to create the cans.

Budweiser breweries in Los Angeles and Williamsburg, Va., will be the first to package the new cans.

Due to the new design, it holds 11.3 ounces of beer, compared with the traditional 12-ounce can. The company says the new can won't replace the traditional Budweiser can.

Budweiser's bowtie logo first appeared in a national advertising campaign in 1956.

One of the youngest performers on TV's "The Voice" is St. Louis-area coffeehouse singer-songwriter Caroline Glaser.

18-year-old Caroline Glaser of Chesterfield  moves forward on the hit TV singing competition that airs locally on KSDK-TV Channel 5, Monday and Tuesday nights.

During last night's battle rounds, her mentor Blake Shelton decided to drop her in favor of a fellow contestant.

But Adam Levine and Usher enacted their “steal” option, allowing her to stay on the show. Glaser opted to go to Levine’s team.

Special guest and fellow Missouri native Sheryl Crow appeared on the show as guest adviser to Glaser and her competitor.
