Thursday, 12 December 2013 17:45 Published in Local News
That didn't take long. Less than a day after rejecting an advertisement from Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center, ESPN has reversed their stance.

In a statement, ESPN reviewed the ad and will accept the original submission. The ad included the phrase "at SSM Children's Medical Center, we celebrate the birth of Jesus" and implored viewers to reveal "God's healing presence this Christmas."

The spot will air on Saturday, the 14th.

Edwardsville man convicted of molesting young girl

Thursday, 12 December 2013 17:38 Published in Local News
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A 66-year-old southwestern Illinois man has been convicted of molesting a preschool-aged girl.

The Telegraph reports Madison County jurors deliberated 45 minutes Thursday before finding Harvey Simington guilty of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

The South Roxana man told investigators in a taped interview played for jurors Wednesday that the victim, then 4, initiated the incident.

Assistant State's Attorney Amy Gabriel called that explanation preposterous.

Authorities say the abuse took place in early 2011 and surfaced about a year later.

The girl, now 6, is in foster care.

Good news for commuters who cross the Mississippi River frequently.

The new Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge is set to open on February 9. The Stan Span has been under construction since 2010. Workers connected the two sides of the bridge in July. The bridge comes with a price tag of around $230 million and is part of the larger $700 million Mississippi River Bridge Project.

The Stan Span will carry I-70 over the river.
