MARYVILLE, Mo. (AP) - A former attorney for a Missouri boy accused in a sexual assault case involving a drunken 14-year-old girl says charges were dropped after the girl and her family refused to cooperate in the investigation.

The Maryville case is drawing new attention after The Kansas City Star published the results of a lengthy investigation on Sunday into what happened at a January 2012 party.

In a statement, attorney Robert Sundell says the girl and her mother refused to answer questions during a May 2012 deposition and later offered inconsistencies in another deposition.

Sundell said the boy cooperated with investigators and "freely admitted" to the sexual encounter. The attorney said while the boy's behavior might be reprehensible, it was not necessarily criminal.

The mother denies she and her daughter were uncooperative.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - The Missouri attorney general's office says it has no power to reopen an investigation into allegations that two teenage girls were sexually assaulted by some boys at a party.

The case is drawing renewed attention after The Kansas City Star published the results of a seven-month investigation into the case in Maryville.

Melinda Coleman says justice was denied when Nodaway County authorities dropped charges in 2012 against the boys who her 14-year-old daughter claimed had sexually assaulted her and a 13-year-old friend.

County officials say the case against the boys fell apart because the Colemans would not cooperate. Coleman denies that.

A spokeswoman for Attorney General Chris Koster says Koster's office lacks the authority to review a local prosecutor's decisions in particular cases.

St. Charles police believe the man accused of drugging and raping a 13 year old girl and taking nude cell phone pictures of her, probably had more victims.

Forty-seven year old Thomas Wilburn is charged with statutory sodomy, statutory rape and enticement of a child under age 14.

St. Charles County Prosecutor Tim Lohmar says Wilburn lured the girl to his apartment in May through a singles' telephone chat service that's supposed to be for adults only.   Lohmar calls that disturbing.  "It is very concerning that somebody who's underage could find their way,  not only into the chat room, but to be able to participate in the chat room," Lohmar said.

Lohmar says this girl probably wasn't the only victim Wilburn met through the chat service.  "We have reason to believe that there are other victims out there, for sure," he said.

Police say Wilburn was identified through court ordered phone records.

Wilburn is a registered sex offender with statutory rape convictions in 2007.  He's currently jailed on $100,000 bond.

Anyone with information about this case, or additional victims is urged to call the St. Charles Police Department at (636) 949-3300.

A 25-year-old man is in custody, accused of asking a 13-year-old and 11-year-old girl for sexual favors after giving them a ride home from the mall.

Police say Samwell Fowler asked the girls if they needed a ride home from the South County Mall on the night of March 8. But when they approached the girls' house, Fowler allegedly drove into an alley, locked the doors, and asked the girls for sexual favors. The girls were able to unlock the doors and escape.

The teenage girl told a police officer at her school, and Fowler was found, arrested, and charged with enticement of a minor.
