SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — A Springfield man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing his roommate so he could steal his heroin.
The Springfield News-Leader reports 40-year-old Jarrod Sirois was found guilty in December of first-degree murder in the beating death of 45-year-old Robert Pugh.
Judge Calvin Holden sentenced Sirois on Friday after denying his motion for a new trial.
Sirois told authorities he killed Pugh so he could steal his drugs, with the intention of overdosing on it, July 6, 2012.
Sirois admitted using a metal pipe to hit Pugh in the head three or four times while Pugh was asleep on the couch.
He told police he was only trying to knock Pugh out.
St. Louis police are investigating the city's fourteenth homicide of the year.
Officers say 21-year-old Erick Burney was walking in the 1500 block of Montgomery in North St. Louis on Monday afternoon, when a driver pulled up alongside him. Investigators say someone inside the car started shooting. Burney was hit multiple times and died at the hospital.
No information on a suspect has been released.
A second man has been charged connected to a double murder in December.
Daveis Sands is facing two charges of first-degree murder for allegedly shooting an killing brothers Justin and Devin Gordon. The Gordons were killed on December 5 inside a North St. Louis home. Ryan Handson was charged with murder in the chase last week.
Police have not said what the motive in the shooting might have been.
Police have identified the man killed during a robbery Monday night.
Police say 28-year-old Randy Burgess and another man were sitting in a car North St. Louis last night. Just before 9 PM two suspects walked up to the car and demanded money from the men. The suspects shot into the vehicle, the driver of the car got out and ran away.
Burgess was hit twice and died at the scene. Police have not announced any suspects.
A St. Louis man is facing charges connected to a double shooting that happened last week.
Police say that John Trevillion shot Tony West and Brian Jordan in the 4700 block of Fletcher in Northwoods. West survived the attack, but Jordan died. Trevillion now faces several felony charges including first-degree murder.
