OZARK, MO (AP) – A southwest Missouri police checkpoint aimed at drunken drivers on St. Patrick’s Day instead snared 10 people suspected of possessing methamphetamine.

The Springfield News-Leader reports 12 arrests stemmed from the checkpoint Monday in Christian County, of which only one was for driving while intoxicated. The other was for possession of marijuana.

Ozark Police Chief Lyle Hodges says three of the 12 arrested in the operation also had outstanding warrants. He says the number of drug arrests -- and lack of drunken driving charges -- was unusual.

Missouri politician admits to drug charges

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - A Missouri House member has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Democrat Jeremy LaFaver, of Kansas City, entered the pleas during a brief court hearing Friday in Boone County. He was fined $200 plus court costs on each charge and paid the penalties before leaving the courthouse.

The 33-year-old lawmaker says he made a mistake and is glad the incident is behind him.

A state trooper stopped LaFaver last month on Interstate 70 in Boone County for failing to respond to charges in Moniteau County of driving with expired license plates. The trooper reported finding a glass pipe and a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle.

LaFaver paid a $125 fine in Moniteau County for the vehicle registration charge earlier this week.

Several St. Peters residents are calling for their alderman to resign after he was charged with marijuana possession.  Alderman Tommy Roberts was charged after St. Peters police found marijuana in his home August 7th.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that about a half-dozen residents called for Roberts resignation at Thursday night's meeting of the Board of Aldermen.  None of the aldermen responded to the comments last night.

Roberts, who has Hodgkin's lymphoma, a form of cancer, said shortly after his arrest that the marijuana possession was "a medical issue."

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (AP) - A Florida prison inmate says he knows what happened to a St. Louis-area boy who disappeared 25 years ago, and authorities in Missouri are trying to determine if his story is legitimate.

Scott Kleeschulte of St. Charles was 9 when he disappeared on June 8, 1988, while walking near a wooded area not far from his home.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 47-year-old Chuck Miceli is a former police officer from the Chicago area who has turned informant on several cases. Miceli was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2010 on a federal fraud charge.

He has claimed a former cellmate abducted Scott. St. Charles authorities have spent the past seven weeks checking his story.

The Kleeschulte family declined comment.

ALTON, Ill.-- AP -- An Alton attorney is free on bond after being accused of growing marijuana in the basement of a home he owns.

Prosecutors in Madison County on Monday charged 56-year-old Bradford Hunt with two felony counts of unlawful production of marijuana plants and a misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of marijuana.

The (Alton) Telegraph says police investigating a reported burglary at the house found two dozen marijuana plants in the basement, along with equipment used to grow the drug.

Hunt’s home telephone has been disconnected, and calls to his office on Tuesday morning went unanswered. It was not immediately clear if he has an attorney.
