Body of woman found in West Co. pond

An autopsy will be performed to try to determine how a West St. Louis County woman died after her body was found floating in a pond near the Reflection Cove Apartments near Ballwin.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that a passerby crossing a walking bridge about 7:30 Monday morning saw the body in the pond.  The woman was floating in three to five feet of water.

The woman was in her late 60s and police say she had been seen by her husband earlier in the morning. Her name hasn't been released.

Lake Chesterfield woes continue

Residents in a Wildwood subdivision aren't sure if their lake will ever hold water.

Lake Chesterfield is empty again.  Major repairs were made in 2004 when the lake drained into a giant sink hole one night.

This time, subdivision trustees hired an engineering firm to lower the lake a little, in an effort to find the source of a slow leak.  But during the process, a valve stuck, and all of the water, and most of the fish, drained away according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

It cost more than $600,000 to fix it last time.  And the subdivision is bound to fix it this time.  How it will cost this time isn't known.

Subdivision trustees say the real problem is the limestone that lies beneath the man-made lake.

Construction will cause delays for Interstate 64 drivers in Chesterfield Valley overnight Saturday.  Crews will be setting bridge girders for the new ramp from Chesterfield Airport Road to westbound I-64.

Transportation officials say lane closures will start in the eastbound direction at 8:00 p.m. Saturday.  And then move to the westbound lanes. The highway will be narrowed to just one lane to allow crews to work.  All traffic will be halted for 15 minute intervals while the bridge girders are set into place.

All lanes should be open by 9:00 a.m. Sunday.

The Justice Department announced the settlement Tuesday over kyphoplasty procedures used to treat spinal fractures usually caused by osteoporosis.

Des Peres Hospital in west St. Louis County has agreed to pay $900,000 to satisfy its part of the settlement.

Four injured in Wildwood deck collapse

Four people are nursing bumps and bruises after the second story deck they were sitting on collapsed during a Memorial Day gathering.

It happened about 1:30 Monday afternoon at a condominium on Sandlewood Creek Court in Wildwood.   Officials say there were problems with the strength of the balcony.

Metro West Fire responded to the incident.  Fire Captain Jeff Haefer says his Fire Marshall and others are working with various property owners to prevent future accidents.  "There is a collaborative effort between our fire bureau and the property owners," Haefer said.  It's "to determine safety issues and point out those things to prevent this from happening again."

Chief Haefer says its fortunate that no one was seriously injured in the incident Monday.
