St. Louis City police continue an effort to connect with residents in crime-ridden neighborhoods. Chief Sam Dotson and other officers along with various city employees were knocking on doors in the Vandeventer neighborhood of north St. Louis Tuesday morning. They were handing out CrimeStoppers information, talking with residents and offering city services like street cleaning and tree removal. Chief Dotson says that fighting crime is a team effort.
"That's why we've brought a significant show of force to the neighborhood, so the criminal element sees us," Dotson tells KTRS's Michael Golde. "We haven't given up on this neighborhood."
A mobile command van was also stationed in the area, and apparently for good reason. Right in front of the van, an officer spotted a .40 caliber shell casing laying in the middle of West Evans Avenue.
