HARRISBURG, Ill.—A southern Illinois high school Spanish teacher is accused of pulling a gun on a woman in a McDonald’s drive-thru lane.
WSIL-TV reports 61-year-old Larry Luna of Harrisburg was arrested Tuesday on two counts of aggravated assault with a weapon.
Harrisburg police say Luna was in his car in line outside a McDonald’s when he began yelling at the woman placing an order in the vehicle in front of him.
Police say Luna brandished a gun when the woman stepped from her car.
Harrisburg schools superintendent Dennis Smith says administrators are waiting for the court case to play out.
Luna is free on bond. Online court records don’t show whether he has an attorney. A message left Wednesday at Luna’s home wasn’t returned.
North Dakota - AP - A school superintendent in North Dakota will resign after he says he took a gun to school to protect himself.
Tioga Superintendent D'Wayne Johnston said in an interview Wednesday that he brought the weapon to the high school on Oct. 2 because of a threat from a boy that resulted in the student's expulsion. Johnston says he should have instead asked for more help from police.
Johnston refused to go into detail about the threat but says the boy had previous discipline problems.
After several people saw the gun, Johnston acknowledged carrying it.
The school board accepted Johnston's resignation at an emergency meeting Friday. The resignation takes effect at the end of the school year.
District officials don't think the incident will result in any criminal charges against Johnston.
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - An aide to Missouri House Speaker Tim Jones has resigned after leaving a loaded handgun in the basement of the state Capitol last month.
The gun belonging to Dave Evans was found Sept. 20 in a black, nylon holster on top of a toilet paper dispenser in a restroom. Police say Evans has a permit to carry concealed weapons.
The speaker's chief of staff, Tom Smith, confirmed Thursday that Evans resigned Sept. 27 as a legislative assistant to Jones. Smith says he was satisfied with the corrective actions Evans agreed to after the incident but that Evans thought it was best for himself and colleagues to step down.
A 2011 Missouri law allows elected officials and their employees to carry concealed firearms inside the Capitol if they have permits.
Ferguson Police have arrested a 17-year-old high school student for bringing a gun to school.
Police say the boy was found with the loaded gun in his backpack at McCluer South High School. Another student alerted school officials to the weapon. School officials also say the student was suspended and could face expulsion.
It appears the gun was stolen.
