Dave Spence takes name out of Police Board hat

Former Republican gubernatorial candidate Dave Spence is pulling his name from consideration for a seat on the St. Louis County Police Board.

County Executive Charlie Dooley's office released a withdrawal letter from Spence on Tuesday.  In it, Spence cited the new screening process enacted by the County Council in the wake of an FBI investigation of former police board chairman Gregory Sansone.

Dooley told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Tuesday evening that the newly adopted audit of police board appointees leaves a nominee’s financial record open to scrutiny through Sunshine Laws.

St. Louis County. police board nominee drops out

CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) — A Florissant pastor nominated to the St. Louis County Police Commission has withdrawn his name from consideration.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Reverend Freddy Clark told County Executive Charlie Dooley Friday morning that he is no longer interested. Clark is the founder of the Shalom Church in Florissant.

Dooley announced two weeks ago that he was appointing Clark and former Republican gubernatorial candidate Dave Spence to the police board, subject to County Council approval.

The appointments came as the FBI investigates the business dealings of former police board chairman Gregory Sansone, who resigned last month.

Board member Floyd Warmann had previously resigned in August. And board member Ray Wagner announced last week that he will step down this fall.

Two members of the St. Louis County Police Board are leaving In the midst of a scandal.

Chairman Gregory Sansone is stepping down while federal investigators look into a $3.7 million contact that his company received for work on a new crime lab. Former Gubernatorial candidate Dave Spence is taking Sansone's place on the board.

There is a second change pending on the board. Floyd Warman resigned weeks ago and will be replaced by Dr. Freddy Clark.

Both appointments are expected to be approved by the board next week.
