JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Governor Jay Nixon says the incentive package Missouri offered Boeing showed the state is "ready to compete" in the global economy.

His statement came early Saturday morning, just after Boeing announced its new 777X airplane will be built in the Puget Sound region of Washington state. Boeing production workers agreed to concede some benefits in order for that to happen.

Nixon thanked the General Assembly, community colleges and local business and labor partners for the "nationally-recognized proposal," which had authorized up to $1.7 billion in tax incentives over two decades.

He also said that Boeing's decision last month to shift some research positions to Missouri is "proof positive" that the state is a "top destination for high-tech jobs and investment."

ST. LOUIS (AP) - A western Missouri judge has scheduled a hearing next week to determine if Gov. Jay Nixon can be deposed for a Chillicothe man's third murder trial.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Platte County Circuit Judge Owens Lee Hull Jr. set the hearing for Thursday.

Attorneys for Mark Woodworth are seeking to depose Nixon, who was attorney general when then-special state prosecutor Kenny Hulshof was appointed to the case.

Woodworth's 1995 conviction for the shooting death of neighbor Cathy Robertson was overturned on appeal. Woodworth was convicted again four years later and sentenced to life in prison. The Missouri Supreme Court overturned that conviction in January.

Woodworth now is facing a third trial.

The judge denied requests from Woodworth's attorneys to dismiss the case and to impose sanctions against prosecutors.

Missouri Treasurer Clint Zweifel is ruling out a run for governor in 2016.

Zweifel, a Democrat, is prohibited by term limits from seeking a third term as treasurer.

He had been mentioned along with Democratic Attorney General Chris Koster as a potential successor to Democratic Governor Jay Nixon.

But Zweifel campaign manager Mike Pridmore said Monday that the state treasurer will not run for governor in 2016 because he want's to spend more time with his family.
