A 20-year-old woman remains in critical condition after she was shot in the chest sitting outside a north St. Louis home early this morning.

The woman was sitting with two friends at a house near Fountain Park around 2:30 this morning, when an unknown suspect started shooting. The woman was hit, one of her friends pulled out a gun and shot back.

Police say it does not appear that the victim was the gunman's intended target. Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation.

Police have released a picture of the suspects connected to a series of car break-ins.

The break-ins happened in Kirkwood last Wednesday and the thieves targeted 14 cars. Police say some cars had been left unlocked, but in other cases the thieves smashed windows or broke locks on doors. The suspects stole electronics, cash, and credit cards--one of the cards was used to make three purchases at a Wal Mart in Jefferson County.

An investigation underway in Franklin County after a St. Louis woman says she was raped by two armed men.

The woman told officers she was driving home to St. Louis from Cuba, when she became lost. When she pulled over to ask for directions, two men--one man armed with a knife, the other with a gun--approached her car. The men proceeded to sexually assault her.

The woman was treated for the assault at a hospital. Police have only a very vague description of the suspects. The woman was not able to tell authorities which direction the men drove off.

The 63-year-old man accused of shooting at two people in a North County bar, has died, the man who attacked him, facing charges.

The shooting occurred late Friday night inside the Pirates Cove bar in Florissant. The Post-Dispatch reports that Edward Mueller of Florissant was disarmed and assaulted by Douglas Layman after the shooting. Mueller was taken to the hospital died from a heart attack.

Layman is the brother of the victims. Layman is charged with second degree murder and held on a quarter-million dollar bond.

PARK HILLS, Mo. (AP) - Two eastern Missouri firefighters are facing charges for a string of arsons in the Park Hills area.

The Daily Journal newspaper in Park Hills, Mo., reports that the firefighters, both from Park Hills, are jailed on $200,000 bail each. Their names have not been released pending formal charges.

The break in the case came when the two men were questioned by police in nearby Leadington and by state conservation agents for the alleged illegal shooting of a deer. Leadington Police Chief Rick Pouge says that during questioning, the men admitted to setting several fires over the past several months.

Park Hills Fire Chief Jackie Wagganer says his department is cooperating with investigators. The department is made up most of volunteer firefighters.

A Belleville martial arts instructor is headed to prison after admitting to sexually abusing three of his students.

Christopher Horton told a judge, he abused the students and recorded the acts on his cell phone. The incidents happened between May of 2012 and February of this year. The victims were between six and ten years old. Horton pleaded guilty to six total counts. When he is sentenced in March, Horton will face up to 30 years behind bars.

   St. Louis police say three people taken into custody yesterday aren't connected to the murder of a teen who was gunned down near a school bus stop Tuesday morning.  

   Police say 16 year old James Moore had been waiting for the school bus at Goodfellow and St. Louis Avenue when a masked man got out of a car, chased him into a nearby park and shot him several times.  Moore died at the scene.  

   Later in the day, police stopped a car matching the description of the one used in the murder.  The three suspects from that car who were initially questioned in the murder didn't get off scot-free.  They're facing charges for fleeing from police.  

   The investigation into Moore's death is ongoing.  Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-866-371-TIPS.

A local politician is accused of breaking his wife's wrist at their house this week.

Police say that Pagedale board member, James Thomasson got angry with his wife on Monday night, saying he did not like dinner. That is when investigators say Thomasson grabbed his wife by the wrist and twisted. Thomasson's wife drove herself to the hospital and X-rays showed she had a broken wrist.

According to court documents, Thomasson is “an alcoholic and was drunk at the time of the incident.”

A would-be robber is dead after starting a shoot out with police in North County.

Around 9:30 AM, Sunday, a woman called police after a man tried to force his way into her home. The victim knew the suspect and directed police to his home. When police arrived at the house in the 10000 block on Winkler, the man started shooting at officers. The Florissant police officers returned fire and killed the suspect.

No officers were injured. The suspect's identity has not been released.

Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies caught up with a pair of unsuccessful robbers.

Joshua Benton and Patrick Rubach face first-degree robbery charges for crimes at a Circle K Convenience store in High Ridge and Steak n Shake in Fenton. Deputies say that they received a call from Benton to report that Rubach, who is his roommate, committed the crimes. After an investigation, authorities discovered that both men were involved in the crimes.

At both the Circle K and Steak n Shake, deputies say the men pulled a gun on employees and demanded money. And at both places, the men left with no money. The pair are held on a quarter-million dollar bond.
