Traffic delays are just around the corner for those who travel the Chesterfield Valley.

MoDOT is closing the Chesterfield Parkway West bridge near the Chesterfield Mall and City Hall at midnight Tuesday.  It will remain closed for the next four months while crews remove and replace it.

More closures are scheduled for Friday night when crews will shut down Highway 64/40 completely in the Chesterfield Valley to take down not only the Chesterfield Parkway West bridge, but also the old Chesterfield Airport Road bridge.

The complete Highway 64/40 closure will last all next weekend. All lanes should reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, April 7.

Construction will cause delays for Interstate 64 drivers in Chesterfield Valley overnight Saturday.  Crews will be setting bridge girders for the new ramp from Chesterfield Airport Road to westbound I-64.

Transportation officials say lane closures will start in the eastbound direction at 8:00 p.m. Saturday.  And then move to the westbound lanes. The highway will be narrowed to just one lane to allow crews to work.  All traffic will be halted for 15 minute intervals while the bridge girders are set into place.

All lanes should be open by 9:00 a.m. Sunday.

A kayaker is safe this morning following a dramatic rescue from the Missouri River Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters report  that around 4:30 p.m. witnesses saw the man's kayak flip, throwing him into the water.  His kayak broke apart and sank.

It happened between Howell Island and the St. Louis County riverbank west of Chesterfield Valley and Spirit of St. Louis Airport.

Fire officials say the man stayed afloat by clinging to a log until rescuers reached him.  He was taken to a hospital to be evaluated for hypothermia.

Several road and highway projects are set to begin this week along three heavily traveled areas.

MoDOT will close lanes on the Poplar Street Bridge this  morning starting at nine until 2:30 in the afternoon. One lane in each direction will be closed weekdays for the next three weeks for crews to inspect the bridge.

In St. Charles County, traffic along Interstate 64 will be slowed or stopped for periods of time this week so crews can blast rock near the Boone Bridge.  Officials will help stop traffic at the designated times starting Tuesday. Blasting times will vary each day. Traffic is expected to be stopped for a maximum of ten minutes.

Close by, Olive street road will be closing between Centaur and Chesterfield Airport Road.  St. Louis County tells KTRS News, Centaur will be closed for two weeks as a contractor installs a 90 foot-long storm drainage system near construction of one of two new outlet malls.

Drivers are asked to use the southern routes of Eatherton, Wildhorse Creek Road, Long Road and Chesterfield Airport Road.

Look for electronic message boards which will list any changes.
