St. Louis pet owners told to keep animals inside

Saturday, 04 January 2014 08:42 Published in Local News

ST. LOUIS (AP) — St. Louis officials are warning pet owners to keep their animals indoors during the approaching cold or face possible animal cruelty allegations.

Forecasts say the St. Louis region could see temperatures of 10 degrees below zero Sunday night and Monday night. The region is also expected to get up to a foot of snow over the weekend.

The Post-Dispatch reports that the city will send search teams out that will look for people who don't have a warm place to sleep, but they'll also look for animals left outdoors. Police are also using extra officers to help look for animals. Chief Sam Dotson says owners will be cited for cruelty to animals.

Up to a foot of snow possible in parts of Missouri

Saturday, 04 January 2014 08:40 Published in Local News

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Forecasters are urging Missourians to brace for a wicked round of winter weather that's about to hit.

The National Weather Service said Friday that a winter storm could dump nearly a foot of snow on the St. Louis region over the weekend, with significant but lesser amounts elsewhere.

Bitter cold is coming, too, with readings well below zero Sunday night and Monday night. Wind chills could reach as low as minus-35 degrees.

The weather service said Saturday is expected to start off mild, with temperatures in the 40s. Then a nasty cold front arrives. Rain will turn into snow starting Saturday and it will continue into Sunday. Several inches are also possible in southern Missouri, and about 5 inches is projected in mid-Missouri.
