Freese to DL, Jackson recalled

Tuesday, 26 March 2013 09:24 Published in Sports
JUPITER, Fla., March 26, 2013 – The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to today’s game that they will place third baseman David Freese (lower back strain) on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 23. The Cardinals also announced that they have optioned left-handed pitcher Sam Freeman to the Memphis (AAA) roster and recalled infielder Ryan Jackson from the Memphis roster. Freese had appeared in 12 spring games, batting .267 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI. Jackson was optioned off the Major League roster on March 17. He had appeared in 17 Grapefruit League games prior to that move. Freeman made two spring appearances, the most recent on Sunday, March 24. Today’s roster moves reduces the number of players on the Major League spring roster to 31. The team announced earlier this spring that pitcher Chris Carpenter and shortstop Rafael Furcal had been placed on the disabled list.

Fake gun prompts school lock down

The all-clear has been given after a toy gun prompted a lock-down of a Granite City school this morning. Around 8:30, a school bus driver called police about a man carrying a gun through a field behind Worthen Elementary School. After an investigation by Granite City police, they determined the gun was fake and no real threat was present. Police say a parent was walking behind the school back to his house with the toy guns after he noticed his two children had brought them to school. The school district has been notified about the incident and they are contacting parents. No criminal charges were filed.

Audit: "Good" rating for MO House, Senate

Friday, 22 March 2013 10:15 Published in Local News
State Auditor Tom Schweich has released the audits of the Missouri House and the Missouri Senate today. Both bodies of government received a rating of "Good." However, the audit shows the House failed to issue proper documentation after the theft of three laptops and two printers worth about $5,000. The audit also shows the Senate solicited contributions from lobbyists to pay "various questionable costs" including retirement dinners and retirement gifts totaling about $8,500.
