CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) - The Chicago-area family of a missing Southern Illinois University student is offering a reward for information in the 19-year-old sophmore's disappearance.
Authorities say Pravin Varughese has been missing since Wednesday. His family says they are offering a $15,000 reward. His sister, Priya Varughese, says family members "just want him home." She says her brother, a cousin and a roommate were at a party the night he disappeared.
Carbondale Police Sgt. Rich Brunner says officers have searched for Pravin Varughese using dogs and by air. He says the searches have covered much of the SIU campus and city. Brunner says friends and police handed out flyers Sunday. Vigils also have been planned.
Vaughese and his family are from the Chicago suburb of Morton Grove. He was studying criminal justice.

$10K reward offered in fatal Kirkwood hit & run

A $10,000 reward is being offered in hopes of catching the hit and run driver who killed a Kirkwood man.  The family of 50 year old Joe Auffenberg is offering the cash for information leading to a conviction.  St. Louis CrimeStoppers is also offering a reward of up to $1,000.
Auffenberg was stuck by a northbound vehicle late Sunday night as he crossed North Kirkwood Road near Bodley.
Police have released a gas station security camera image of a car that was in the area at the time.
Also, police are looking for a man who was shopping at the nearby Walgreens just before the accident.  Police stress that he's not a suspect, but a potential witness. The man is described as white, 45-60 years old, with gray hair and a white goatee.  He was wearing a tan jacket and St Louis Blues sweatshirt.
Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers at 866-371-8477. Tips can also be directed to the Kirkwood Police Department at 314-220-4094.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - The Humane Society of Missouri is seeking information about a severely injured dog left outside its St. Louis headquarters this past weekend.

The female Dalmatian mix was abandoned early Saturday outside the organization's Macklind Avenue offices. The dog's right paw had been chewed off and skin and tissue licked off its rear left paw, exposing bone. Its rear legs were infected with gangrene. The injuries were severe enough that the dog was euthanized.

The society is offering a $1,000 reward for information about the injured animal. It operates an animal cruelty hotline at (314) 647-4400.

The reward for information on who burned a dog that was found last month is higher.

Zeus was a pit bull. He was found with third-degree burns on over three-quarters of his body. Veterinarians determined his injuries were so severe that they were forced to euthanize him. The Humane Society has increased the reward from $2,500 to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Zeus' owner reported the dog missing from his Jennings home. Authorities found the dog badly burned in a neighbor's back yard.

Earlier this summer, a St. Louis woman was charged with felony animal abuse for setting a dog on fire and bragging about it on Facebook. That dog also died.
