Drivers on Kirkwood Road are used to waiting for the train, but that wait is a little longer today.
Union Pacific crews are making a critical repair to the tracks crossing Kirkwood Road near the Amtrak Station. That is forcing the trains to use a single track and slow down to 10 miles per hour.
City officials say the slower trains are taking longer to pass, and that's holding up traffic on Kirkwood Road.
Besides the train crossing delays, part of the road will be blocked off between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday. Motorists are advised to use the bypass on Clay Avenue if possible.
The work and the delays will last through the Thursday evening rush.
Drivers headed through downtown on 64 should be aware of a planned closure.
MoDOT plans to shut down the highway in both directions at Jefferson Avenue so crews can tear down the overpass. The closures will start tonight between 7 and 8 PM, but the highway should reopen by Monday morning rush.
